Raptor Domain

New Years on Kangaroo Island - Day 3
The highlight of Kangaroo Island would have to be Raptor Domain.  The Birds of Prey and Rehabilitation Centre was opened by Dick Smith on 25th September 2010.  The Birds of Prey show was absolutely fantastic.  Both David & I got the opportunity to glove up and hold different birds.  We met Casper the Barn Owl, Wally the Tawny Frog Mouth, Ellie the Barking Owl, Chipps the Kestrel, Jedda the majestic Wedge Tailed Eagle and Hobbit the Hoby Falcon.  Anyone visiting KI must go and see the Birds of Prey show.

Seal Bay

New Years on Kangaroo Island - Day 3
One of the stops on our last day was at the Seal Bay Conservation Park, a 45 minute drive from Kingscote.  Beach access to the colony of Australian Sea Lions is by guided tour only along a 800-metre boardwalk.  The Sea Lions are in their natural environment of coastal vegetation, dunes and beach.  Whilst on the beach, the group had to maintain a fair distance from the sea lions, which would have been about 20 metres.  For those not wanting to access the beach, there is also a self guided walk along another boardwalk to a large viewing platform to observe the sea lions surfing the waves or sunning themselves on the beach.
