New Years on Kangaroo Island - Day 2
Perched above the sea in Flinders Chase National Park, the impressive Remarkable Rock form what appear to be a cluster of precariously balanced granite boulders. This stunning work of nature has been shaped by the erosive forces of wind, sea spray and rain over some 500 million years. The golden orange lichen covering some of the rocks makes for some stunning photos.

New Years on Kangaroo Island - Day 2
We stopped for lunch at the Flinders Chase National Park Visitors Centre in a sheltered picnic area. A few crows were lurking about and a hundsman, disgusting! We briefly stopped at the Bunker Hill Lookout on the way to Remarkable Rocks to see the burnt remains of the December 2007 bushfires. The Kangaroo Island bushfires were caused by lightening strikes and burnt some 95,000 ha of land across the western side of the island in Flinders Chase National Park.

New Years on Kangaroo Island - Day 2
Before we entered Flinders Chase National Park, we stopped off at the Hanson Bay Wildlife Sanctuary for a Koala Walk. The walk itself was lovely stolling under shaded trees on such a hot day, but the wildlife was far from being in abundance. We saw a few wallabies and a couple of koalas, but one mumma koala had a baby, which was just too cute. I was on skype from Wellington with David when I was posting this entry, and David reminded me of his koala impersonation, so I've included a photo for a laugh.

New Years on Kangaroo Island - Day 2
We start off Day 2 with a quick photo stop at Vivonne Bay, which is on the south cost of Kangaroo Island, 61km from Kingscote. Vivonne bay is characterised by its long, sandy beach and jetty, which is used extensively by cray fisherman for off-loading their catch.

New Years on Kangaroo Island - Day 1
Every day at 5pm on the Kingscote Wharf near the small Fisherman's Jetty behind the Kangaroo Island Marine Centre at the waters edge, John the Pelican Man gives a lively and informative talk about the Penguins before feeding them. At the end of the show, a donation is taken as John funds this daily event out of his own pocket. Great entertainment for peeps of all ages.
